北京英国学校丨BSB Students heading to Brown, Yale & UCL this Summer

As part of our Higher Education and Careers support for students, we keep up to date with opportunities for summer schools and work experiences. We recently connected our Year 12 students with opportunities in the UK and the US, and we are happy to share with you details of the exciting experiences that some of our students are already looking forward to!

Max Xing is aiming for a choice of either Brown University in Rhode Island – an Ivy League college and one of oldest and most prestigious in the USA, or the Yale Young Scholars programme.

He’s considering a number of summer programmes involving leadership, conflict solving, and global challenges, but he’s also looking at a programme that will let him pursue his passion for acting and media! Max is already thinking about how this will be an excellent step on his academic career, as he plans to apply to Brown later to study media and communications and drama/theatre as a double major. Max is looking forward to college-level challenges, learning new perspectives and gaining a new view on the world, adding skills and knowledge to his toolbox. This chance to grow academically and personally will dovetail with his IB learning.

Brown University

Florence Li has been offered places at the prestigious University of Southern California (USC) and University of California, Berkeley colleges in the US, but has accepted her first choice offer from Yale University.

She has the chance to study art and architecture in the college summer programme. This is an invaluable opportunity for Florence to build up a portfolio of work in addition to her studies in Year 12 at BSB, as she intends to go on to study architecture at university following graduation. She is looking forward to applying her applying her studies to achieve a greater appreciation of Chinese architecture and its importance as part of China’s culture and society. Florence is looking forward to enjoying the environment of a top university, developing her academic growth, and becoming more independent, as well as meeting new friends and experiencing a new culture.

Yale University

Daphne Fong is bound for the UK for a careers taster course at University College London (UCL), one of the UK’s top universities.

Daphne will work with industry professionals in the engineering field, focusing specifically on electronic/electrical engineering. This will be great experience as she intends to apply the UK to study engineering will greatly strengthen her university applications. It will also give her an insight into her chosen career field. In personal terms Daphne will benefit from seeing the UK first time, experiencing a new environment, becoming more independent, trying new things and meeting new people. She hopes also to have the chance to visit some universities where she intends to apply later.
