As you are all aware as a community we recently completed a charity walk, and together we managed to raise an amazing ¥31000. We are extremely grateful for your generosity and after speaking to the consulate, got a list of items desperately needed by the people tragically affected by the recent earthquake. Now most of these people have lost everything, so with the donations we purchased 120 x blankets, 65 x tents,


 2500 x socks and 130 x sleeping bags. We have delivered them to the embassy and met with the consulate. He expressed his enormous gratitude on behalf of the people who will receive it, and wanted to thank our community for all it has done. We also had a lot of help from Lia, from the PTA. So on behalf of Mr.Stuart and Mr.Raed, we would like to say a huge ‘Thank you’. Your kindness will never be forgotten.

The First Field Trip

This week, Pre-nursery class went to Baiyun children’s park for the first field trip. We had a wonderful time!


Field trips provide children with real-world experiences that they may not get by simply reading a book or watching videos. It allows them to explore the local environment and gain first-hand knowledge about whatever they study in class.


In the park, we enjoyed the nice view of the riverside and also collected our favorite leaves and flowers in order to explore the topic of “Spring”. With the lovely weather, we enjoyed our picnic time in the park. Children learned to share food and clean up when we finish the picnic.


The purpose of this field trip, apart from learning the topic of “spring”, it’s also important for young children to understand how to keep our environment clean and how to play properly and safely in the public area.


这周,小小班去白云区儿童公园进行了第一次实地考察。我们玩得很开心。


实地考察为孩子们提供了真实世界的经验,而这些经验可能不是通过简单的阅读书籍或观看视频就能得到的。这使他们能够探索当地的环境,并获得有关他们在课堂上所学知识的第一手资料。


在公园里,我们欣赏了河边的美景,还收集了我们喜欢的树叶和花朵,以探索 "春天 "这一主题。由于天气晴朗,我们在公园里享受了野餐的时光。孩子们学会了分享食物,并在野餐结束后打扫卫生。

A Fun and Exciting Week

Digestive System, Area and Perimeter, Explanation Texts and 'Will a Robot Do Your Job?' Presentations

Year 5 have had a fun and exciting week this week! Here's what they've been up to in their classes.


Science: the students have been learning about the digestive system in their 'Animals' unit. They went to the Science lab where they participated in an experiment which demonstrated how the digestive system works. The students learnt about the functions of each organ and the complex processes that take place. The students also used VR to learn more about the digestive system. Thank you Mr. Tom for helping with this activity.


Maths: the multipurpose room (MPR) was filled with colourful taped compound shapes and the students needed to work in pairs to measure the area and perimeter of each shape. This was an enjoyable way of learning about area and perimeter and allowed them to practice their accuracy at measuring too. Thank you Mr. Peter for helping to set up this activity.


English: 'Explanation texts' is the topic that Year 5 are currently studying in their English classes. The students chose a topic, researched their topic online and started writing their own explanation texts which they will finish next week.


Global Perspectives: the students presented their 'Will a robot do your job?' presentations to Mr. Mark, Mr. Tom and Mr. Ray. The students have benefitted from weekly English with ICT classes and were able to create their own PPTs with transitions and animations added. The computer literacy skills in Year 5 have increased substantially in Year 5 since the start of the academic year. Thank you to Mr. Mark, Mr. Tom and Mr. Ray for being a supportive audience and for asking questions and offering feedback.


Year 5 should be very proud of themselves for their work this week. I continue to be impressed by your hard work and dedication. Keep it up!


五年级学生在本周度过了一个有趣和激动人心的一周!以下是他们在课堂上的表现。下面是他们在班级里的活动情况。

Reading Peer-Assessment Activity

阅读互评活动


Year 9 returned to school after lockdown with energy and determination to learn and do well! They have been busy with revision work and completing practice test papers.


However, the first week, to help everyone settle back into the school routine and have some fun, we had a reading peer-assessment activity, which our Principal also attended. The students judged each other using a strict criterion. Year 9 read extracts of a story to year 8. Year 8 read their own written work to Year 7 and they, year 7, read extracts of a story to year 6. Later in the term, Year 10 will read their own written work to all classes and be judged by Years 6, 7, 8 and 9!


This activity was both a social and academic activity. It gave all the classes a chance to meet students from higher and lower year groups. It also required students to think about their audience. What kind of writing would be suitable for their audience? What kind of story would they like? Those students who were reading had to choose the book carefully. Those students who were writing also had to be careful with their choice of topic, language, and vocabulary. Thinking about writing to suit a specific audience is a skill needed for the English First IGCSE exam, so this was relevant practice.


The activity also gave all students a chance to test their pronunciation and speaking skills. The challenge was to read in a way that was both entertaining and clear. I told all students they had to ‘put the story into their voice’! No flat tones! They were not allowed to bore the listeners! They all responded well to this challenge and the morning was successful. Neither has it been forgotten! All students are making much more effort with their reading out loud.


Another benefit was that it gave the younger classes experience in judging their peers. Readers were judged on clarity of voice, pronunciation, and variety of tone. The questions the listeners had to answer were ‘How well does this person read? How interesting does he or she make the story sound? Would you want to read more?' All the students took it very seriously and were such strict judges! Well done indeed everyone!

另一个好处是,这让低年级的学生有了评判同伴的经验。读书者的评判标准是声音的清晰度、发音和语气的多样性。听众必须回答的问题是 "这个人读得怎么样?他或她让故事听起来有多有趣?你还想再读吗?所有的学生都非常认真,并且是如此严格的评委!"大家都做得很好。


Wander in the Ocean of Chinese Stories

This week our primary school children wandered in the ocean of Chinese stories, using their imaginations to soar in the sky.


In our Native Chinese class, the sound of children reading pinyin in unison can be heard in the classroom of the Year 1. In the classroom of the Year 2, the touching singing of "Dragonfly spreads its wings in mid-air, butterfly hides and seeks" came out. It turned out that they were learning "Animal Nursery Rhymes". In the classroom of the Year 3, the children tilted their heads and listened carefully to the fable of "Antlers and Deer Legs" told by the teacher. In the Years 4 and 5 classrooms, some children experienced the fun of rural childhood in the world of "Skylight", and some children were listening to the story of "Straw Boat Reference" attentively, as if they were in the battle of Chibi in the Three Kingdoms.


The children in the non-native class are also very enthusiastic about learning Chinese. The children in the Years 1 and 2 introduced to each other which country they are from and where did they come from? Some children in the Years 3 and 4 were talking about how to accurately express time in Chinese. Talk about your favorite vegetables. Children in Years 5 and 6 created groups to discuss practice questions. Chinese learning is full of fun, let's enjoy it together!


这周我们小学的孩子徜徉在中文故事的海洋里, 发挥着各自的想象翱翔在理想的天空中。


在中文母语班,一年级的教室中传出孩子们齐声朗读拼音的声音。二年级的教室中传出”蜻蜓半空展翅飞,蝴蝶花间捉迷藏…….”的动人歌声,原来他们是在学习《动物儿歌》。三年级的教室里孩子们都歪着小脑袋,认真地听老师说《鹿角和鹿腿》的寓言故事。四五年级的教室里,有些孩子们在《天窗》的世界里体会着乡下童年的趣味,有些孩子们在聚精会神地听着《草船借鉴》的故事,彷佛置身于三国赤壁之战中,纷纷感叹诸葛亮的机智英勇。


非母语班的孩子学习中文同样非常有热情,一二年级的孩子互相向同学介绍着自己是哪国人?从哪里来? 三四年级有些孩子在谈论着如何用中文准确地表达时间,有些孩子在谈论自己最喜爱的蔬菜。五六年级的孩子们一起创建小组讨论着练习题。中文学习充满着快乐,让我们一起享受其中吧!
