As we enter the first month of 2024,the students at Fettes College Guangzhou continue to make great progress.Not only has the first graduating class received offers from many world-renowned universities,such as the University of Oxford,the University of Melbourne,and the University of Edinburgh,but students from other years have also achieved success in international competitions across various disciplines.The students are full of enthusiasm and a fighting spirit!

Good News for the Preliminary Round of the National Economics Challenge.

全美经济学挑战赛（NEC）2024初级站圆满落幕，全国500余所学校的学子线上亮相，进行了一场紧张刺激的学术比拼。广州斐特思学生在预赛中取得了相当不错的成绩，在团队方面，参赛的两支队伍均晋级总决赛；个人奖项上，多位参赛学生也有不俗成果，其中Daniel（11年级）获全国个人银奖，Roger（11年级）和Elaine（10年级）双双夺得全国个人铜奖。

The 2024 primary station of the National Economics Challenge(NEC)came to a successful end,with students from more than 500 schools across the country participating online in an exciting academic competition.FCG’s students achieved quite good results in the preliminary round.In terms of teams,the two teams participating in the contest advanced to the finals.Regarding individual awards,many students also achieved good results.Daniel(G11)won the national individual silver award,while Roger(G11)and Elaine(G10)both won the national individual bronze award.

全美经济学挑战赛（National Economics Challenge，简称NEC）被广泛认可为一项高水平的经济学竞赛，考察内容涵盖微观经济学、宏观经济学、国际经济和金融学等多个领域，对参赛者的学科知识和英语水平要求都较高。

本次获得全国个人银奖的Daniel同学，他所在的五人队伍也获得了区域银奖。三个月以来，Daniel的付出获得了带队老师的大力肯定，热爱经济学科的他，也率先垂范，充分发挥队长作用，以饱满的热情鼓舞和带动着团队成员共同备战，被队员们称赞为“最佳Captain”！

另一位参赛选手Clancy同学说：“通过比赛学到了不少课本之外的知识，虽然备战过程中有很多疑问，但Chloe老师提供了及时的解答和辅导，让我们对学科的整个知识体系有了更全面的理解。”

寒假即将开始，进入NEC决赛的同学们早已约好假期要一起提前学习12年级的经济学课程，他们知道，掌握的知识越广越深，就更有把握应对后续的比赛。期待晋级队伍能在今年3月的NEC中国区总决赛中再获好成绩！

NEC is widely recognised as a high-level economics competition,covering microeconomics,macroeconomics,international economics,finance,and other fields.It requires participants to have a high level of subject knowledge and English proficiency.

Daniel,who won the National Top Scoring Individual Silver Award this time,also led his team to win the Regional Overall Team Silver Award.Over the past three months,Daniel's efforts have received strong affirmation from his teachers.As a passionate economics student,he has taken the lead in setting an example by fully utilising his role as a captain,encouraging and motivating his team members to prepare for the competition with great enthusiasm.He was praised as'the best captain'by his team members!

Clancy,another contestant,said,“I learned a lot of knowledge outside the textbooks through this competition.Although there were many questions during the preparation process,the teacher provided timely answers and guidance,which allowed us to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the entire knowledge system of the subject.”

As the winter holiday is about to begin,the students have already planned to study the G12 Economics course together.They understand that the more knowledge they acquire,the more confident they will be in the upcoming competition.We hope that the qualified teams will perform well in the NEC China Finals in March this year!

无独有偶，加拿大初级化学竞赛JCCO（Junior Canadian Chemistry Olympiad）本月亦放榜公示获奖消息，Roger（11年级）、Daniel（11年级）、Helena（11年级）、Elaine（10年级）和Alice（10年级）在这一比赛里捧回全球铜奖、全球优秀奖、全国金奖等多个奖项，这一喜报也对其他年级喜爱化学的同学起到极大的激励作用。

Similarly,the Junior Canadian Chemistry Olympiad(JCCO)also announced the winners this month.Roger(G11),Daniel(G11),Helena(G11),Elaine(G10),and Alice(G10)received awards such as the Global Bronze Award,the Global Excellence Award,and the National Gold Award in this competition.These achievements have played a significant role in inspiring students who have a passion for chemistry.
